Employees Campaign to Raise Close to $30,000 for The United Way of Cape Fear
For over a decade, Jeff Gordon Chevrolet in Wilmington, NC has participated in United Way of the Cape Fear Area’s Community Giving Campaign. Each year different events are hosted throughout a week long span that highlight the importance of community giving while offering employees activities that are fun and memorable.
After winning the 2013 Spirit of Cape Fear Award, Jeff Gordon Chevrolet wanted to continue its fundraising efforts to assist others in the Wilmington Area. After a Monday morning kickoff meeting, the week-long fundraiser commenced with a candy and cookie bar and a scratch off store with customized tickets that offered donated prizes from some local businesses such as Halligans, Breaktime, and Outback Steakhouse, as well as a few employees and their family members. In addition to the fun and prizes during campaign week, employees have the option of donating throughout the year by pledging a dollar amount of their choosing every pay period. At the end of the week, the staff of Jeff Gordon Chevrolet totaled nearly $30,000 in donations and pledges to the United Way of the Cape Fear Area.
Some of the local programs that benefit from United Way Cape Fear Area are:
- New Hanover County Blue Ribbon Commission: formed in 2008 to address growing concerns about youth violence in our area.
- Hometown Hires: a collaborative initiative between private, public and nonprofit organizations that matches local individuals with local employers who want to help break the cycle of generational poverty in the Cape Fear Area.
- 10 Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness: a long-range, comprehensive plan to help both chronically homeless and non-chronic homeless people return to healthy and stable lives in permanent housing.
