The Chevy Blazer: Back to the Beginning

It’s been fifty years since the Chevrolet K5 Blazer made its debut with the 1969 year model as an answer to vehicles like the Ford Bronco, Jeep Cherokee, and International Scout. It was built on the same frame as the full-sized K5 Chevy trucks and easily out-sized the competition, giving the power and off-road capability of a Chevy Truck with enough room for up to 5 passengers.

Here at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet, we’ve been dreaming of the Blazer to make a comeback for a while and were starting to think it’d never happen; That is, until Chevrolet dropped this major teaser this morning of a man sporting a fashionable sport jacket… A blazer!

Chevy Blazer Teaser Post.png

We’ll be honest; We were very perplexed at first and actually thought the post was a mistake. The people at Chevrolet assured that we were in for a surprise and once the light bulb went off, we haven’t been able to contain our excitement.

General Motors ceased production of the Blazer with the 2005 year model and although we love how far efficient crossovers like the Equinox and Traverse have come, we’ve been longing for a rugged off-roader to be added to Chevy’s SUV lineup. According to Chevrolet, the special event is happening tomorrow, June 21st, 2018 at 7PM EDT so we’ll definitely be following the news and posting updates here as soon as its available!

In the meantime, get nostalgic with us! Take a quick look at the first Chevy Blazer brochure courtesy of OldCarBrochures.com below and let us know in the comments what your favorite feature was or tell us about the fond memories of your family’s Blazer growing up!

Testing Out a Colorado ZR2 with GearOn™ Accessories

The Perfect Combination for Making the Most of Your Outdoor Adventures

For Summer of Chevy 2018, Jeff Gordon Chevrolet is exploring our coastal city of Wilmington, North Carolina and surrounding areas with a different vehicle every week all summer long! For the first week of Summer of Chevy, we are having fun with the 2018 Colorado ZR2 and just a few of the many available GearOn™ accessories that Chevrolet has to offer.

Water Sports

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 GearOn Accessory Kit - Thule - Jeff Gordon Chevy Trucks Wilmington NC.jpgFrom Wrightsville Beach to Carolina Beach to the Cape Fear River and everything in between, there is no shortage of places to jump in the water around here. Our friends over at  Hook, Line, and Paddle happen to know a thing or two about water sports and were happy to help us put Chevy’s GearOn™ accessories to the test. They generously brought over Native’s latest fishing kayak – the Slayer 12 XC (video below) to pack on top of our Colorado. To do that, we equipped the Colorado with Thule® Roof Racks  and the Hull-A-Port Pro™ Folding J Kayak Carrier, allowing us to carry the sizeable fishing kayak securely on one side of the roof. With space to fill on the other side of the roof, we decided on the Thule® Roof-Mounted Big Mouth™ upright bike carrier – making the perfect combination for summer time adventures hitting the trails and waterways with plenty of cargo room to spare for additional gear! For cyclists who need to carry more bikes for family or friends, Chevrolet also offers options to carry over the cargo bed or hitch-mounted carriers that can carry up to 4 bicycles, if needed.

And, for those who enjoy bigger toys during the summer, the Colorado ZR2 has a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds to get your boat or jet skis to the ramp with ease. Not to mention, with the new tow hitch guideline feature available on the new Chevy Trucks, you can get your trailer hooked up in no time.

While shopping Chevy Accessories for our Colorado ZR2, we discovered just how versatile the GearOn™ accessory line really is with its customization options. We were able to showcase its ability to cater to bikers and water sport enthusiasts on this truck, but it also has plenty of options for other outdoor activities. So, if you happen to live closer to the mountains than the coast, GearOn™ has you covered year-round.

Winter Sports

For those who enjoy winter sports, there are plenty of options to secure your gear and equipment separately and securely. With the Flat Top (above) or Hitch-Mounted (right) Ski/Snowboard Carriers by Thule®, you can anchor up to four snowboards or six pairs of skis in the back of the truck without sacrificing any cargo space in the bed.

Camping

PhotoFor those who enjoy camping any time of the year, one of our favorite GearOn™ accessories is this Sportz® Camping Tent by Napier that is designed to fit perfectly into the bed of your Chevy Truck, and can be put up and taken down with ease. Since you’ll have your Chevy Colorado with a 4G LTE WiFi hot spot, there’s nothing stopping you from uploading a peaceful Boomerang of yourself being one with nature to your Instagram story.

Whatever your camping style, Chevrolet offers a wide array of accessories including cargo bed dividers, nets, and roof-mounted cargo carrying options to make sure your camping trip goes just as planned. And you’ll be rest assured that whether you’re driving out on the sand, snow, or up the side of a mountain, the Colorado ZR2 won’t leave you stuck in the mud.

So by now, we’re sure you’re wondering where to get one of these amazing trucks and some handy accessories to go with it. Jeff Gordon’s Chevy dealer in Wilmington has you covered! Come join the JGC Family like the dozens of smiling faces below. Shop for your Colorado or Silverado, pick out your accessories, and have them installed all under one roof.

Proceeds Support Fight Against Childhood Cancer Through Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation

CHARLOTTE (June 2018) – Four-time NASCAR CUP SERIES champion Jeff Gordon, one of the most iconic names in racing and pop culture, intends to repeat last year’s record-breaking $1 million raised for childhood cancer research.  To realize this goal, he has donated a very special car from his personal collection – a 60th Anniversary Chevrolet Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition – along with $15,000.

2018 CFAC Your Chance

Tickets to win the car and cash are available June 1 – July 31 for $100 each at www.CorvetteForACure.org and only 10,000 will be sold.  In addition to the chance to win Gordon’s car there also are three “stage drawings” of $5,000 each.  The earlier a ticket is purchased, the more chances there are to win.  All federal taxes will be paid on the car and cash prizes, and Gordon will personally hand over the keys and sign over the title.

About the Corvette

Gordon’s Corvette is Arctic White with full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue, including a tonal stripe stitched into the blue convertible top extending the graphic theme over the roof, and Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede accents.  The sticker price is $90,490 with features including:

  • 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7 engine and 6-speed manual transmission
  • 505 horsepower (377 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Carbon fiber raised hood, Z06-style fenders, floor panels, and “front splitter and rocker panels
  • ZR1-style rear spoiler, special badging, gray-painted brake calipers and “60th” logo on wheel center caps, steering wheel and seat headrests
  • Lightweight machine-face Cup wheels with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels wrapped in ZR1-style Michelin PS2 tires

This is the 13th year of the Corvette program, which has raised nearly $7 million in the previous 12 years.  Gordon started the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation in 1999 – a 501(c)(3) public charity – to help improve outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer.  Since then, more than $18 million has been used to fund some of the most promising research in childhood cancer, as well as open the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital in Concord, N.C. and the Butaro Cancer Center of Excellence in Rwanda.

Cancer is the number one cause of death by disease for children, and families of two children every hour receive the devastating news of a cancer diagnosis.  Only four percent of the National Cancer Institute’s budget goes to pediatric cancer, with pharmaceutical companies contributing minimal resources, leaving childhood cancer heavily reliant upon private donations.

3 Best Places to Take Your Dog in Wilmington, North Carolina

Let’s face it: Pets are family, and we want to make sure they always feel loved and appreciated. That’s why it’s important to pamper your cat around the house and take your dog on adventures outside of the house.

Many of our employees at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet are dog parents. According to them, these are the best places to take your dog in Wilmington:

  1. Wilmington Dog Park at Empie: Dogs are social creatures, so it’s important to let them play with other dogs under your supervision at a dog park. The Wilmington Dog Park is a great place to do just that. Set on two acres, this off-leash park has two distinct play areas—one for large dogs and one for small dogs.
  2. Abbey Nature Trail: Dogs love walks, especially in new places with exciting smells. Take your pooch out to Abbey Nature Trail along Highway 17 North. Set on 67 acres, this nature preserve offers up a 2.4-mile trail that takes you through the woods and over the mill pond.
  3. Entropy Boat Rentals: Does your dog love to swim? Consider this unique experience with the pet-friendly Entropy Boat Rentals, where you can ferry your dog over to a pet-friendly beach.

Local Women Team Up for National Women Build Week

Women across the Cape Fear Region fastened their tool belts and picked up their hammers to help a local family build the home they have been waiting for.

During the week of May 5th-12th, over 200 women divided into teams to build a home for a local mother and her two children in New Hanover County. This massive team effort was a part of “National Women Build Week”, a partnership initiative by Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s Home Improvement. Throughout the fundraising campaign, donors had the opportunity to donate in honor of a strong woman in their life.

WWAY was on hand to cover the local build organized by Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity.

In support of these efforts, Jeff Gordon Chevrolet donated refreshments for the volunteer teams and provided some helping hands for the first build day of the week.

National Women Build Week took place in over 300 communities across the country, timed to line up with the Mother’s Day holiday. Lowe’s Home Improvement has donated over $2 million dollars to the growing initiative.

Whether you’re exhausted from a long day of work (or have just woken up and are staring down one of those long days) or need a pick-me-up after a fun day exploring the city with your dog, a cup of coffee should do the trick. These are the four best coffee shops in Wilmington:

GM Owners Can Now Receive Amazon Deliveries Right to Their Vehicles

Chevrolet_Equinox_Amazon_Key_In_Car_Delivery_2.0New Service for Amazon Prime Members Launched Today in 37 US Cities

Despite the increased availability of affordable, easy-to-install home security systems, the convenience of online ordering also allows for increased opportunities for porch pirates. According to a study by Insurance Quotes, 25.9 million  Americans (8%) reported stolen packages from their doorsteps in 2016 – up from 23.5 million in 2015.

Thanks to a new partnership between Amazon and General Motors, owners of select 2015 and newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles can now get their packages delivered right to their car with their Prime membership via the Amazon Key mobile app at no additional charge. Amazon recently announced their in-home delivery option to allow members to give permission to delivery drivers to unlock the front door and leave packages in your entry-way, eliminating the risk of your package getting stolen off your front porch. As of right now, both in-home and in-car delivery services are available in 37 cities across the US with wider availability

How it works:

Amazon keyGM owners who have the an active OnStar account will be able to take advantage of this service when they download the Amazon Key app. The vehicle must be in an easily-accessible location like your driveway or public parking lot – no gates or parking garages. According to The Verge, who got a demonstration to this new service last week, you are able to choose the “in-car delivery” option upon checkout when you make your online purchase. Amazon will send a series of notifications to let you know the package is on its way. If for some reason you have to run a quick errand or feel like your vehicle may not be accessible when the package arrives, you have the option to change delivery locations or “block access” to the in-car delivery service. If you do block access, Amazon will default to your regular delivery location – most likely, your porch.

Check if you’re eligible here.

To pinpoint the location of your vehicle, the Amazon Key app does give the driver access to your vehicle’s GPS location, license plate number, and an image of the vehicle based on its description. Once the courier locates your vehicle, they use their device to verify that its been located, scans the package, and then requests the vehicle be unlocked via Chevy’s connected car services. When all those boxes are checked, a swipe on the screen unlocks the trunk and the package is placed inside. The courier verifies that the delivery is complete on his/her device, closes the trunk, and makes sure the vehicle is locked (which it should do on its own.)

Restrictions for in-vehicle delivery include any packages that are:

  • Over 50 pounds
  • Larger than 26 x 21 x 16 inches
  • Require a signature
  • Valued over $1,300
  • Or coming from a 3rd party seller (prime only!)

First Customers (Video)

As with most new services, Amazon has been beta-testing this in California & Washington to get customers’ reactions. In the following video by Amazon, one woman says this service allows her to receive her regular diaper delivery without risking her toddler being awoken by the doorbell. Another mother was able to use it to make sure her daughter wouldn’t be tipped off to the birthday gifts she purchased. One man said that he is now able to get his personal purchases placed discreetly in his vehicle while receiving business-related parcels to the office. So… yeah. Watch here:

These uses of the service do seem practical enough, but as more technologies like this come out, there will likely always be a question of how “safe” it is, virtually speaking.

So what do you think about Amazon Key In-Car? Would you use it? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Are you wishing you drove a GM vehicle so you could take advantage of this and all of the other awesome Connected Services through OnStar? That’s where we come in!
