Wilmington, NC- The 61st running of the Daytona 500 is quickly approaching just days away! One of the most sought out sporting events of all time, the Daytona 500 will be held on February 17th.
In a unique start this year’s Daytona 500 will feature the 2019 Silverado 1500 as the official pace vehicle. This is the first time a pick-up truck will serve as the pace car in the Daytona 500, with two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the driver’s seat.
Honored to pace the Daytona 500 in the Silverado 1500, Earnhardt Jr. said (as cited by Motor Authority, 2018) “Away from the track I’ve driven Chevy trucks all my life, and I’m excited to have this unique experience of pacing the Daytona 500 with the Silverado.” Earnhardt Jr. is a member of the Hendrick Motorsports family, and retired from racing in 2017. Earnhardt Jr. is now a race analyst for the NBCUniversal, and owner of JR Motorsports.
Under the Hood– Although the Silverado 1500 lacks the appearance of a traditional race car, under the hood it features a 6.2-litre V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, packing a punch close in line with the Chevy Camaro.
Our very own Jeff Gordon will be commentating the Daytona 500 on Fox Sports. Gordon has won three Daytona 500’s 1997, 1999 and 2005. In 2015 Gordon’s final year of racing he won the pole at the Daytona 500, then in 2017 Gordon was the honorary pace car driver for the Daytona 500.
Although this is the first time for a pick-up truck to pace the Daytona 500, Chevrolet has been in the spotlight before pacing the “Great American Race” a total of 12 times; 5 of those times were with a Corvette, and 7 with a Camaro.
Wilmington, NC- Although it is February in Wilmington, North Carolina it feels like spring. Which means it is time to load up the all new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and get out on the beach to enjoy this beautiful “winter weather” this weekend! See how we used the Silverado 1500 Trail Boss LT this week with our full gallery!

For those who want to take their off-roading adventures to the extreme, Chevrolet has teamed up with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) for the first time to bring you the new Colorado ZR2 Bison – Available January 2019. Here are some key takeaways from the announcement.
Engine & Performance
The Bison model will come with a class-exclusive 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission capable of 186 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque.
As you can see from the pictures, the Bison features the Chevrolet-stamped grill, just like select trim levels of the all-new 2019 Silverado, but the flow-through design will be exclusive to this special edition. To ensure protection when venturing over rocky and jagged terrain, AEV added skid plates along the entire under-carriage constructed of hot-stamped Boron steel that cover the engine oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case, and front & rear locking differentials. For even more protection, the Bison comes with an AEV designed stamped steel bumpers. The front bumper contains winch provisions and standard fog lights and there will be recovery points integrated into the rear bumper.
Buyers will have a choice of two body configurations: crew cab with a short bed or extended cab with a long bed. The ZR2 Bison will also feature exclusive 17 x 8-inch aluminum wheels surrounded by some beefy 31″ Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires.
As far as the snorkel, there’s some good news and some bad news. The good news is that it is not exclusive to the new Bison, or even the ZR2. You can actually get one installed for any 2015 or newer Chevy Colorado – Cool! The snorkel also provides a great benefit to the health of your engine and, according to the AEV description, is “designed to improve engine performance by drawing in the cleanest, coolest air charge possible.”
The bad news is that it’s an optional 3rd party accessory through AEV, which means the Bison will not come standard with the snorkel as shown in the promo pieces. The kit itself is going to cost about $500 (after you factor in taxes), with an estimated 6 hours installation time, which won’t be cheap either. But, if you are planning on taking your truck off the beaten path regularly, it’s probably less expensive to just get the snorkel than it would be to choke your truck’s engine with dust.

Last year, Chevrolet introduced the RST Performance Package to the 2018 Tahoe and Suburban LT & Premier models, equipped with a 420-hp, 6.2L V-8 engine, Magnetic Ride Control with performance calibration, and a new Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed transmission. In addition to the performance enhancements, the RST models were given a sportier look. Virtually all chrome is eliminated and instead features a body-colored grille surround and door handles, all black emblems, window trim, roof rails, and badges. However, the biggest visual identifier of the RST models, in our opinion, is the 22″ gloss black wheels with silver accents.
Although the sportier design looks different and cool, some people prefer the more traditional, luxurious look of the Tahoe and Suburban but would still prefer more power and performance. So, Chevrolet answered by announcing the Premier Plus trim level. In addition to the performance upgrades, the Premier Plus will have a Black/Mahogany leather interior, traditional gold bow ties, and 22″ 12-spoke wheels with a polished finish. The Sun, Entertainment, and Destinations Package that includes features such as rear entertainment, power sunroof, and a longer SiriusXM trial, also comes standard with the Premier Plus. This package generally costs about $3,000. Buyers of these special edition models will also receive an 12-month data plan for the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
So how much does the Premier Plus edition cost in comparison to a regular RST edition?
A 2019 Suburban Premier 2WD with the RST appearance and performance packages will cost you around $71,495. With 4WD, you’d be looking at $74,045. A 2019 Premier Plus Edition would be about $7,000 more, bringing you to $78,195 for the 2WD and $81,295 for 4WD, with just the standard options.

DETROIT — Due to customer demand, Chevrolet is expanding the availability of the 6.2L V-8 engine within its full-size SUV lineup by introducing the Tahoe and Suburban Premier Plus special editions.
The 6.2L V-8 was first made available in the Chevy full-size SUV lineup on the 2018 Tahoe RST 6.2L Performance Package. The engine recently debuted on the 2019 Suburban RST 6.2L Performance Package, which is now on sale at Chevrolet dealerships nationwide.
All Premier Plus edition Chevy full-size SUVs, as well as RST Premier models with the optional 6.2L Performance Package, also feature Magnetic Ride Control with performance calibration and a Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission.
“Our customers have shown strong demand for both Tahoe and Suburban with the 6.2L V-8 option,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet Trucks Marketing and Advertising. “Thirty-six percent of all Chevy full-size SUV special edition models are now sold with this engine. Premier Plus gives both Suburban and Tahoe customers another option to choose from with several added premium touches.”
The 2019 Tahoe and Suburban Premier Plus editions feature a unique interior with heated and ventilated Black/Mahogany-colored leather-appointed front seats against a Jet Black trim surround. This premium two-tone interior and 22-inch polished wheels make their first appearance in Chevy’s full-size SUV lineup with the Premier Plus special editions.
Other features include gold Chevrolet “bowtie” logos, chrome nameplate badging, a head-up display and 8-inch diagonal cluster, cross rails, chrome power steps and exhaust tip and a Chevrolet-branded cargo organizer.
Connectivity is provided by a standard 4G LTE Wi-Fi1 hotspot, and the Premier Plus package includes a 12-month data plan.
The available 6.2L V-8 is capable of 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The engine delivers three state-of-the-art technologies — direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing — to make the most of power, torque and efficiency across a broad range of operating conditions.
The 10-speed automatic transmission offers smaller steps between each ratio to maximize engine power under acceleration. With a wide 7.39 overall gear ratio spread and lower numerical top gear ratio, the transmission also reduces engine revolutions at highway speeds.
Magnetic Ride Control is an active suspension that “reads” the road every millisecond, triggering damping changes in the electronically controlled shock absorbers in as few as 10-15 milliseconds. As a result, the suspension delivers improved body-motion control during cornering and a more comfortable ride while cruising.
The 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier Plus will start with an MSRP of $74,100 plus a $1,295 destination charge, while the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban Premier Plus will start at $76,900 with a $1,295 destination charge. (MSRP excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment.)
Both Premier Plus full-size SUVs are also available to Costco members at GM supplier pricing with a $4,500 Costco member incentive2. Costco Gold Star and Business Members who purchase the vehicle through participating dealers and complete a Costco Auto Program survey are also eligible for a $300 Costco Cash Card, while Executive Members are eligible for a $700 Costco Cash Card.
The exclusive Costco member value package is only available on 5,000 vehicles. Costco offer is not compatible with any other GM incentives. To qualify, customers must be a member by Oct. 1, 2018, and take delivery between, Oct. 2, 2018, and Jan. 2, 2019.
The 2019 Tahoe and Suburban Premier Plus can be ordered from Chevrolet dealers now, with production beginning in mid-August.
