The Perfect Combination for Making the Most of Your Outdoor Adventures
For Summer of Chevy 2018, Jeff Gordon Chevrolet is exploring our coastal city of Wilmington, North Carolina and surrounding areas with a different vehicle every week all summer long! For the first week of Summer of Chevy, we are having fun with the 2018 Colorado ZR2 and just a few of the many available GearOn™ accessories that Chevrolet has to offer.
From Wrightsville Beach to Carolina Beach to the Cape Fear River and everything in between, there is no shortage of places to jump in the water around here. Our friends over at Hook, Line, and Paddle happen to know a thing or two about water sports and were happy to help us put Chevy’s GearOn™ accessories to the test. They generously brought over Native’s latest fishing kayak – the Slayer 12 XC (video below) to pack on top of our Colorado. To do that, we equipped the Colorado with Thule® Roof Racks and the Hull-A-Port Pro™ Folding J Kayak Carrier, allowing us to carry the sizeable fishing kayak securely on one side of the roof. With space to fill on the other side of the roof, we decided on the Thule® Roof-Mounted Big Mouth™ upright bike carrier – making the perfect combination for summer time adventures hitting the trails and waterways with plenty of cargo room to spare for additional gear! For cyclists who need to carry more bikes for family or friends, Chevrolet also offers options to carry over the cargo bed or hitch-mounted carriers that can carry up to 4 bicycles, if needed.
And, for those who enjoy bigger toys during the summer, the Colorado ZR2 has a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds to get your boat or jet skis to the ramp with ease. Not to mention, with the new tow hitch guideline feature available on the new Chevy Trucks, you can get your trailer hooked up in no time.
While shopping Chevy Accessories for our Colorado ZR2, we discovered just how versatile the GearOn™ accessory line really is with its customization options. We were able to showcase its ability to cater to bikers and water sport enthusiasts on this truck, but it also has plenty of options for other outdoor activities. So, if you happen to live closer to the mountains than the coast, GearOn™ has you covered year-round.
For those who enjoy winter sports, there are plenty of options to secure your gear and equipment separately and securely. With the Flat Top (above) or Hitch-Mounted (right) Ski/Snowboard Carriers by Thule®, you can anchor up to four snowboards or six pairs of skis in the back of the truck without sacrificing any cargo space in the bed.
For those who enjoy camping any time of the year, one of our favorite GearOn™ accessories is this Sportz® Camping Tent by Napierthat is designed to fit perfectly into the bed of your Chevy Truck, and can be put up and taken down with ease. Since you’ll have your Chevy Colorado with a 4G LTE WiFi hot spot, there’s nothing stopping you from uploading a peaceful Boomerang of yourself being one with nature to your Instagram story.
Whatever your camping style, Chevrolet offers a wide array of accessories including cargo bed dividers, nets, and roof-mounted cargo carrying options to make sure your camping trip goes just as planned. And you’ll be rest assured that whether you’re driving out on the sand, snow, or up the side of a mountain, the Colorado ZR2 won’t leave you stuck in the mud.
So by now, we’re sure you’re wondering where to get one of these amazing trucks and some handy accessories to go with it. Jeff Gordon’s Chevy dealer in Wilmington has you covered! Come join the JGC Family like the dozens of smiling faces below. Shop for your Colorado or Silverado, pick out your accessories, and have them installed all under one roof.
For all your kayak, paddleboard, and fishing needs, go see Chris and Finn at Hook, Line, & Paddle at 435 Eastwood Rd in Wilmington!
Note: All links to GearOn accessories in this post are meant to fit the specific truck featured. When shopping, make sure you select your Chevy Truck’s year, make, and model to ensure a proper fit.
Rocks, mud, the competition. ZR2 conquers them all. With its segment exclusive features like Multimatic shocks and an available Duramax 2.8L Turbo-Diesel engine-not to mention its aggressive stance and styling-ZR2 leaves the Tacoma stuck in a rut.
Proceeds Support Fight Against Childhood Cancer Through Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation
CHARLOTTE (June 2018) – Four-time NASCAR CUP SERIES champion Jeff Gordon, one of the most iconic names in racing and pop culture, intends to repeat last year’s record-breaking $1 million raised for childhood cancer research. To realize this goal, he has donated a very special car from his personal collection – a 60th Anniversary Chevrolet Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition – along with $15,000.
Tickets to win the car and cash are available June 1 – July 31 for $100 each at www.CorvetteForACure.org and only 10,000 will be sold. In addition to the chance to win Gordon’s car there also are three “stage drawings” of $5,000 each. The earlier a ticket is purchased, the more chances there are to win. All federal taxes will be paid on the car and cash prizes, and Gordon will personally hand over the keys and sign over the title.

The sticker price is $90,490 with features including:

505 horsepower (377 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque
Carbon fiber raised hood, Z06-style fenders, floor panels, and “front splitter and rocker panels

Lightweight machine-face Cup wheels with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels wrapped in ZR1-style Michelin PS2 tires
This is the 13th year of the Corvette program, which has raised nearly $7 million in the previous 12 years. Gordon started the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation in 1999 – a 501(c)(3) public charity – to help improve outcomes for children diagnosed with cancer. Since then, more than $18 million has been used to fund some of the most promising research in childhood cancer, as well as open the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital in Concord, N.C. and the Butaro Cancer Center of Excellence in Rwanda.
Cancer is the number one cause of death by disease for children, and families of two children every hour receive the devastating news of a cancer diagnosis. Only four percent of the National Cancer Institute’s budget goes to pediatric cancer, with pharmaceutical companies contributing minimal resources, leaving childhood cancer heavily reliant upon private donations.

Yesterday (April 2nd) was World Autism Awareness Day – a day where monuments and landmarks around the globe are lit up blue in support of the cause. Even though Jeff Gordon’s award-winning dealership in Wilmington is not (yet) considered a historic landmark, it will be joining the rest and lighting it up blue with its puzzle piece display, now up near South College Road! Every night throughout the month of April, these pieces will be illuminated to show support for Autism Awareness and get the word out for the dealership’s annual fundraising campaign. If you’re local to the Chevy dealership and see the display, snap a pic (only if it’s safe!) and post it with the hashtag #JGCFamily so we can see it!

Throughout each month, Jeff Gordon Chevy employees have the opportunity to nominate their fellow coworkers for being such a great asset to the team by demonstrating great leadership, providing excellent customer service, and just doing that something extra that they don’t have to. At our employee luncheon each month, the Extra Mile Award Winner is announced. For September 2017, that person is our New Car Sales Consultant, Sharod Wallace!
Sharod is a team player. He’s dedicated to the JGC team (across departments) and he puts his teammates before his paycheck. He pulls a number of extra duties for the dealership and wears a number of different hats with ease. He is kind to the people around him. He is well liked and well respected by his teammates and customers. He excels at Chevy product knowledge, and is willing to help anyone with anything at any time. He’s fun to be around and brings levity and friendship to the workplace. The key is that Sharod exemplifies the core value of Teamwork through Trust and Respect. He believes that we all achieve more when we work together. He leads others around him to think like this as well. People are better when they are around him. That’s what makes him deserving of this award.
