Gordon took NASCAR by storm in the 1990s being the youngest driver to win a premier series title in the modern era as a 24-year-old in 1995, going on to win three more championships (1997, ‘98, and 2001). His team was dubbed the Rainbow Warriors for their iconic colorful No. 24 Chevrolet that took a modern era-record of 13 wins in 1996. This record shattering team ranks third on the all-time wins list, and launched Gordon into a winning powerhouse with a total of 93 races, three Daytona 500s, four straight Southern 500s, and a record of five Brickyard 400s. Gordon also won 4 NASCAR Cup Series Championships 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001. With a record of 797 consecutive starts Gordon retired from full-time racing as the premier series “Iron Man”.
To kick off Gordon’s exciting week Sunday he was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame alongside Charles “Red” Farmer of 86 who is still racing today, in Charlotte, NC.
OFF THE TRACK
Aside from all of Gordon’s on track success he has continued to be a great face for the sport and for the causes he believes in with his Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, an organization with efforts to support pediatric cancer research, treatment, and patient support.
Gordon currently delivers that same passion he shared on the track with NASCAR fans as an analyst for FOX Sports.
