AT&T Offers Unlimited Data for your Chevy

Chevrolet owners with an in-vehicle OnStar® 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot* will now be able to stream more videos, send more emails, and play more online games (when they’re not driving, of course) thanks to a new $20/month** unlimited prepaid data plan. This is the first such plan from a mass-market automaker and will be welcome news for Chevy owners, who used almost 200% more OnStar® 4G LTE data last year than they did in 2015.

That means never losing connection when you’re on site on the job, kids can stream as many shows and movies as they wish, and much more.

Setting a new standard for 4G LTE connectivity

The OnStar Basic Plan, along with 4G LTE connectivity through AT&T, comes standard on all Chevy retail models. Chevrolet is the first automaker to offer this high-speed Wi-Fi Hotspot across its lineup and has sold over 3 million vehicles with OnStar 4G LTE connectivity since 2014. Chevrolet also has more vehicles on the road with 4G LTE than any automaker.

DETROIT — After using more than 4 million gigabytes of data in 2016, Chevrolet owners in the U.S. with an in-vehicle OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot[1] will now have access to an unlimited prepaid data plan for only $20 per month[2]. It will be available starting March 3, and Chevrolet will offer this groundbreaking plan enabled by AT&T across its entire retail lineup.

Chevrolet data usage has increased exponentially as owners have come to appreciate the ability to stream video on a tablet, send email on a laptop or play online using a gaming console in their vehicles[3], and now customers can utilize the full potential of their OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot without worrying about running out of data.

Last year alone, Chevrolet customers used nearly 200 percent more OnStar 4G LTE data in their vehicles compared to 2015. In the second half of 2016, Chevy owners used almost as much data as they had the previous 24 months since OnStar 4G LTE launched.

To put this data usage in perspective, Chevrolet owners and their passengers streamed the equivalent of more than 17.5 million hours of video in 2016.

Today, along with the 4G LTE connection enabled by AT&T, the OnStar Basic Plan comes standard on all new Chevrolet retail models. The Basic Plan includes select remote vehicle services and the OnStar AtYourService marketplace via the myChevrolet mobile app[4] among other features.

OnStarInternet in your car? It’s here. Chevrolet is the first and only car company to bring built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi to cars, trucks, and SUVs.


Early in 2014, Chevrolet announced that they would be introducing OnStar with AT&T’s 4G LTE technology starting with most 2015 year-model vehicles. (Read our post about it here.) The technology will be an optional feature that will be available with OnStar-equipped vehicles that are 4G LTE-ready, which will allow drivers to turn their vehicles into a mobile WiFi hotspot.

Starting with the Basics
The OnStar Basic Plan is included with the price of the vehicle for FIVE YEARS, which includes:

  • remotelinkRemoteLink Key Fob Services – Remote start, lock/unlock, honk horn, and flash your lights right from your smart phone.
  • OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics lets you run a diagnostic check of your vehicle and receive monthly diagnostic emails.
  • Directions and Connections – Free for the complimentary trial period associated with the vehicle brand and model.

OnStar with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi customers also get three months or 3GB of Wi-Fi Service (whichever comes first) just so you can test it out and see if you like it! So what can you do with 3 gigabytes of data? According to AT&T Support, 3GB is enough to:

  • Send or receive about 4,200 emails with attachments
  • Stream music for 36 hours
  • Visit 600 web pages… or visit JeffGordonChevy.com 600 times
  • Watch 5 hours of cat videos!
  • Download 42 apps, games, or songs
  • AND make 570 social media posts about how much better your car is better than everyone else’s because it has internet… and of course, share those cat videos you just watched for 5 hours.

The Benefits:

  • Be able to connect up to 7 devices at once! This includes your phones, tablets, laptops, and anything else you have that can connect to the internet.
  • The fast, reliable WiFi hotspot is more powerful than a phone hotspot (and you won’t have the same problem with battery life that you would on your phone.)
  • It’s always on when the vehicle is running, or in accessory mode. In accessory mode, average battery will provide up to a half-hour of usage. Actual time may vary based on battery health.

Chevy Technology Strikes Again at 4G LTE Speeds

What are two things that you don’t think you would be able to live your daily life without? Most people would probably say their phone and their car. Well, Chevrolet has recognized just that and found a way to make sure you get the best of both…

Earlier this week, Chevrolet announced that they will be raising the bar in the industry’s technology once more and introducing models optionally equipped with OnStar 4G LTE (thanks to some help from AT&T) starting this summer. The first models to have this feature will be the 2015 Corvette, Impala, Malibu, and Volt and will be followed by the Equinox, Silverado, and Spark.

“Chevrolet is expected to implement the broadest deployment of 4G LTE in the automotive industry,” said Alan Batey, senior vice president of Global Chevrolet. “The fact that OnStar with 4G LTE will be available in models that range from the Chevrolet Spark to the Silverado to the Corvette, is indicative of our broad commitment to deliver more value and convenience through smart technology applications. This new, purposeful technology solution will make our consumers lives easier to connect.”

The 4G LTE rollout will bring a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot to most Chevrolet vehicles, which allows passengers to connect their personal devices, such as smartphones, laptops and tablets, to high-speed wireless internet. Each vehicle can accommodate multiple devices at one time.

We know that our customers rely on being connected on a daily, if not hourly basis, and they expect to be provided with the information and content they desire with no interruptions,” said Mary Chan, president, GM’s Global Connected Consumer. “A 4G LTE hotspot that’s built into a car’s architecture will provide a more consistent and powerful Wi-Fi connection than a smartphone.

With OnStar’s 4G LTE connection, the vehicle acts as a mobile hub, giving customers easier access to apps and services that require a high-speed cellular or data connection. The vehicle will employ a wireless connection that does not rely on a brought-in mobile device.

Additionally, Chevrolet MyLink will offer a built-in AppShop, accessible right from MyLink’s touchscreen where you can view all the apps, download them directly to the vehicle, organize, update, or delete them as needed – just like your iPhone and Android. These applications will connect drivers to vehicle data, weather, news, travel information and more. The initial app lineup will include: Vehicle Health, iHeartRadio, Priceline.com, The Weather Channel, NPR, Slacker Radio, TuneIn Radio, Cityseeker, Eventseeker, Glympse, and Kaliki.

The built-in 4G LTE connection will allow our vehicles to be updated with the latest software and apps,” said Chan. “This means that the driver’s vehicle infotainment systems can keep getting better after purchase as customers can continue to add on and customize their features.
