Julia Dalton Sits with Jeff Gordon Chevrolet As She Gets Ready to Compete for Miss USA
The beautiful Julia Dalton, Miss North Carolina USA sits down with Leacy Sauer of Jeff Gordon Chevrolet as she prepares to compete at the National Miss USA Competition in Baton Rouge, Louisiana this coming July. Watch the video here, or scroll down to read the transcript!
Since she was crowned in October of 2014 as Miss North Carolina, Julia has worked with Jeff Gordon Chevrolet to help fulfill her reign as Miss NC. As a native of Wilmington, NC, Julia came to Jeff Gordon Chevy looking for a vehicle sponsor. She felt that Chevrolet was a perfect choice, being truly American, whose lineup provided something for every lifestyle. She has driven several Chevy models, including the Trax, Impala, Equinox, Malibu, and more, to assist her safely in her many appearances around the state where she puts a strong focus on what she feels most strongly about – community outreach and charitable organizations.
You can learn more about Julia here: http://www.missnorthcarolinausa.com/miss/
Leacy: Hi! This is Leacy from Jeff Gordon Chevrolet. I am sitting here with Miss Julia Dalton who is Miss North Carolina. She is on her way to the Miss USA pageant this year and we just wanted to welcome you here and say thanks for having a chat with us today. And, actually, we just wanted to know – When were you actually crowned Miss North Carolina?
Julia: I was crowned Miss North Carolina USA on October 11th, 2014. It was a big night for me and it’s been an exciting year.
Leacy: Yeah, it sounds like it’s been really crazy. So, the pageant is coming up. When is it and where is it located this year?
Julia: Miss USA is going to be on July 12th and it’s in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. And it’s going to be hot and humid but thankfully since I’m from Wilmington, I’ll be used to it and my hair won’t get too crazy!
Leacy: Well, Baton Rouge, that will be a lot of fun, it’ll be quite a different experience probably. Very nice people who come from Louisiana, too.
Leacy: So, you’re a native of Wilmington. What are some of your favorite things about our Coastal City?
Julia: I love the mere fact that we have the beach and the waterways and that beautiful ecosystem. I’m a runner, and so I love taking my jog down to the beach. Getting that run is gives such a sense of solitude. It’s relaxing and [the beach] is so beautiful. There’s something very unique about our beaches, so I think that’s my favorite part.
Leacy: Great. So as Miss North Carolina , when will your reign end?
Julia: It’ll be a year from the night I got crowned so I’ll have to pass the torch again on October 12th, 2015.
Leacy: Well you’re here at the dealership today and so, [let’s] talk cars a little bit… Think back when you were learning how to drive… Everyone has interesting stories of when they were younger and a teenager and they had that one person who was trying to help them out and teach them the ropes. Who was that person for you?
Julia: I will never forget whenever we were young, we would do this thing where we would pull into our neighborhood, and my Dad would push back the seat of the car and would let one of us come and sit in his front lap and steer – we were really young, and it was just through the neighborhood and that was always really fun and something that I remember and so that I think that my Dad was always the one who instigated how to drive safely, how to hold the steering wheel and steer properly. So, I would say my Dad.
Leacy: Well that’s pretty cool.
Julia: Yeah, it’s a cute memory.
Leacy: So you’ve been with us now since a little bit after you started your reign last year. You got to drive a couple different Chevy models, taking you here and there and everywhere for your appearances. Which one really sticks out in your mind? Did you have a favorite?
Julia: That’s tough, because I really love all of them, but the 2 that stick out in my mind are the Impala, because it’s just the epitome of a luxury car. You feel comfortable, you feel safe, there’s [a lot of] space, it has a beautiful interior, and it drives really smooth – I love that one, for sure.
But I also really liked the Trax because you get the feel of a car like you’re in a sedan and you can whip around town, but like an SUV, you are sitting a little higher. That one’s super fun and really sporty – which reflects my personality.
Leacy: Wow, those are two very different vehicles.
Julia: Haha, I know! I have two completely different sides of my personality.
Leacy: So after Miss USA, what’s next?
Julia: After Miss USA, I’ll keep working at my job at PPD… If I don’t win. If I do win, I’ll be flown to New York City to start my media tour and I will live there for a year. But you know, if I don’t, I’ll come back to Wilmington, North Carolina and continue my job with PPD and fulfill my reign as Miss North Carolina.
Leacy: Awesome. Well, we all think you’re gonna win.
Julia: Thank you!
Leacy: Well, thanks so much for sitting with us today and guys, please be sure to watch the Miss USA Pageant coming up on July 12th, live on NBC at 7PM central!
Update 7/9: Julia has arrived in Baton Rouge and has gone through the Miss USA preliminary competition! Check out her contestant interview below!
Four time NASCAR Champion, Jeff Gordon’s, Chevy Dealership in Wilmington, NC just learned that it was named GM Dealer of the Year – one of 12 Chevy dealerships in the southeast U.S. region. To qualify for this award, a dealership must excel in customer satisfaction, essential brand elements, and parts loyalty across all departments.
An employee luncheon with brief update from the General Manager is a monthly event at Jeff Gordon Chevy, but it was decided that this time we should kick it up a notch to celebrate. With some help from Party Suppliers of Wilmington, Julia’s Florist, Middle of the Island (MOI) Catering Co., and Cupcakes by Karen, the employees at Jeff Gordon Chevy were definitely treated to probably the fanciest luncheons in the history of the dealership. Of course, none of it would be possible without our Events Coordinator, Leacy Sauer along with some additional help from Kim Dale and Karen Benton.
Official Press Release:

Wilmington, North Carolina May 8, 2015 – Jeff Gordon Chevrolet announced today that General Motors named the dealership to the exclusive Chevrolet Dealer of the Year list.

“Chevrolet is building a stronger relationship with consumers by delivering award-winning products and the best retail experience,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet. “It’s important to acknowledge these exceptional dealers for delivering a tailored customer experience, while consistently growing sales.”

In addition to the honorable Dealer of the Year award, Jeff Gordon Chevrolet also won the Elite Department Award from Hendrick for New Vehicle Sales, Service, Parts, and Collision departments. Pre-owned sales associate, Chris Whitehurst, and Collision Center assistant manager, Kevin Kutz, were both presented the Chairman’s Club awards as well.
And lastly, Stacee Marcum and Dan Jacobs, both service advisers were nominated and awarded for our in-house Going the Extra Mile Award. The award is presented to recognize dealership employees who go above and beyond their job description to make this a better place for both fellow employees and customers. Recently, a customer of ours found herself suffering from a medical emergency while dropping her car in the service lane. It was very close to closing time for our service department and the customer was forced to wait for her husband who was an hour away. Dan and Stacee stayed by her side until he was able to reach the dealership. Absolutely deserving of that award, they each got a $50 Gift Card to the Circa Restaurant Group – YUM!
Here are some shots from the event, all taken by our amazing photographer, Kristen Corley.
New Nanny System called “Teen Driver” Helps Keep An Eye On Kids Behind the Wheel
If you haven’t heard yet, Chevrolet plans to unveil the all-new 2016 Malibu at the 2015 New York International Auto Show this April. Chevrolet has teased a couple of photos, and just let out another piece of information that parents, or even spouses who don’t trust their significant others’ driving skills, will absolutely love.
It’s a new nanny system called “Teen Driver” and what it does is what some parents might call a God-send. We surely all remember being teenagers and finally getting the rite of passage of being able to drive — Finally! Most of us also didn’t have a car as soon as we got our license… So what did we do? Borrow Mom or Dad’s car.. of course! What we did, where we went, was none of your parent’s business as long as we were behind the wheel, and you did eventually come home with the groceries you were asked to get while you were out.
Well now we’re all grown up and have, or we’re about to have, teens getting ready to drive – Now we know why our parents were so anxious. After being in their shoes, you KNOW how irresponsible some teen drivers can be, especially with the technology available that causes distractions that we never even had. For a number of reasons, teens are the cause of a great percentage of traffic accidents. (You can read more about that from the CDC here.) So, wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way we could tell how our teen is driving when you’re not in the passenger’s seat?
Yes. It would. We think, anyway. “Teen Driver” on the new 2016 Malibu will be the revolutionary technology tool to put your mind and heart at ease allowing you to promote safe driving habits. Here are some of the things you’ll be able to control with this new system:
- While most parents would probably love to limit the highest speed of the vehicle, the system doesn’t do exactly that, but will warn a teen visually or audibly when he/she is traveling over preset speeds. So for example, if you live in a town where the max speed is 55 MPH, you can set an audio or visual warning when that speed is exceeded to tell the teen to slow down.
- To ensure that people are using seatbelts, you could tell the system to mute the audio of the radio, or devices paired with the car until both driver and passenger fasten up.
- You can set a limit on how loud your teen can blast the radio, because we all know how they love doing that.
- There is also a report card function that saves data from when your brand new Chevy was in your teen’s possession including: max speed, how many miles they drove, and how many times the active safety features (rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision alert, etc.) were engaged.
The Teen Driver feature will be standard on the 2016 Malibu’s Premier trim and optional on LT models if equipped with the Convenience Package and up-level radio. To enable the feature, the parent simply sets a PIN through the Chevrolet MyLink system, which allows you to register your teen’s key fob (or, the one that they primarily use).
What do you think?
As we mentioned briefly before, we think that this is an absolutely awesome bit of technology that would help both put parents of new drivers at ease when giving their kids a little bit more freedom on the road, and at the same time, help teens practice safe-driving. We hope it does make a difference and lessens the risk of accidents caused by inexperienced drivers and we’re excited to see what other models will adopt this same feature on Chevrolet’s lineup. What do you think about it? Share your thoughts and opinions by leaving a comment below! We’d also love to hear how you implement (or have implemented) safe driving techniques & practices for your teens.
The redesigned mid-sized sedan is expected to arrive at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet in Wilmington, North Carolina, in the last quarter of 2015. To received a notification on its arrival, fill out the contact form below, or subscribe to our blog to keep up with updates on the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as we receive more details!
New Chevy Malibu Will Be Lighter, More Refined Than Previous Generations
Chevrolet recently teased a photo of the new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and announced that its full reveal will take place at the 2015 New York International Auto Show this April. There are limited details until the 9th-Generation Malibu is actually revealed at the NYIAS, but we do know a few things…
One of the major changes on the 2016 Malibu will be a weight-shed of about 300 pounds, making the total weight of the new model about 3,000-3,300 pounds. The wheel-base will also be 4 inches longer, allowing for more legroom in the back seats. As you can see from the photo, the profile of the new Malibu offers a more sleek design, and we’re excited to see the full reveal next month. It has already been announced, also, that the new generation will be available at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet in Wilmington, NC in the last quarter of 2015, which is pretty great.
What do you think about the Malibu being redesigned? Do you think it needed an update, or did you think it looks fine just the way it is now? Weigh in by leaving a comment below!
