Wilmington, NC- The 61st running of the Daytona 500 is quickly approaching just days away! One of the most sought out sporting events of all time, the Daytona 500 will be held on February 17th.
In a unique start this year’s Daytona 500 will feature the 2019 Silverado 1500 as the official pace vehicle. This is the first time a pick-up truck will serve as the pace car in the Daytona 500, with two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the driver’s seat.
Honored to pace the Daytona 500 in the Silverado 1500, Earnhardt Jr. said (as cited by Motor Authority, 2018) “Away from the track I’ve driven Chevy trucks all my life, and I’m excited to have this unique experience of pacing the Daytona 500 with the Silverado.” Earnhardt Jr. is a member of the Hendrick Motorsports family, and retired from racing in 2017. Earnhardt Jr. is now a race analyst for the NBCUniversal, and owner of JR Motorsports.
Under the Hood– Although the Silverado 1500 lacks the appearance of a traditional race car, under the hood it features a 6.2-litre V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, packing a punch close in line with the Chevy Camaro.
Our very own Jeff Gordon will be commentating the Daytona 500 on Fox Sports. Gordon has won three Daytona 500’s 1997, 1999 and 2005. In 2015 Gordon’s final year of racing he won the pole at the Daytona 500, then in 2017 Gordon was the honorary pace car driver for the Daytona 500.
Although this is the first time for a pick-up truck to pace the Daytona 500, Chevrolet has been in the spotlight before pacing the “Great American Race” a total of 12 times; 5 of those times were with a Corvette, and 7 with a Camaro.
“It’s not that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but it’s your best friends who are your diamonds. It’s your best friends who are supremely resilient, made under pressure and of astonishing value. They’re everlasting; they can cut glass if they need to.” – Gina Barreca

Wilmington, NC- NASCAR Hall of Fame Day is quickly approaching as we prepare for another exciting career achievement of our one and only Jeff Gordon. Gordon will be leading the pack in the 10th class of inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame on February 1st in Charlotte, NC. By racking up 96 percent of the possible votes Gordon has earned another stat as the highest vote-getter in NASCAR Hall of Fame history.
This celebratory weekend will be full of events and opportunities for fans to get close with the Hall of Famers. See the full list of events.
Gordon took NASCAR by storm in the 1990s being the youngest driver to win a premier series title in the modern era as a 24-year-old in 1995, going on to win three more championships (1997, ‘98, and 2001). His team was dubbed the Rainbow Warriors for their iconic colorful No. 24 Chevrolet that took a modern era-record of 13 wins in 1996. This record shattering team ranks third on the all-time wins list, and launched Gordon into a winning powerhouse with a total of 93 races, three Daytona 500s, four straight Southern 500s, and a record of five Brickyard 400s. Gordon also won 4 NASCAR Cup Series Championships 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001. With a record of 797 consecutive starts Gordon retired from full-time racing as the premier series “Iron Man”.
Aside from all of Gordon’s on track success he has continued to be a great face for the sport and for the causes he believes in with his Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, an organization with efforts to support pediatric cancer research, treatment, and patient support.
Gordon currently delivers that same passion he shared on the track with NASCAR fans as an analyst for FOX Sports.

Let’s face it: Pets are family, and we want to make sure they always feel loved and appreciated. That’s why it’s important to pamper your cat around the house and take your dog on adventures outside of the house.
Many of our employees at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet are dog parents. According to them, these are the best places to take your dog in Wilmington:
Wilmington Dog Park at Empie: Dogs are social creatures, so it’s important to let them play with other dogs under your supervision at a dog park. The Wilmington Dog Park is a great place to do just that. Set on two acres, this off-leash park has two distinct play areas—one for large dogs and one for small dogs.
Abbey Nature Trail: Dogs love walks, especially in new places with exciting smells. Take your pooch out to Abbey Nature Trail along Highway 17 North. Set on 67 acres, this nature preserve offers up a 2.4-mile trail that takes you through the woods and over the mill pond.
Entropy Boat Rentals: Does your dog love to swim? Consider this unique experience with the pet-friendly Entropy Boat Rentals, where you can ferry your dog over to a pet-friendly beach.

Wilmington is a place of movers and shakers. Whether you’re exhausted from a long day of work (or have just woken up and are staring down one of those long days) or need a pick-me-up after a fun day exploring the city with your dog, a cup of coffee should do the trick. These are the four best coffee shops in Wilmington:
Grinders Caffé: This café is located at 5032 Wrightsville Avenue and is well-known for offering a different coffee flavor each day. We recommend an iced coffee—they include iced coffee cubes!
Luna Caffé: Tucked away at 604 Castle Street, this little café is celebrated for its delicious espresso and is easy to spot from the road—just look for the bold blue bricks.
Folks Café:This local café has done so well for itself that it has opened two locations—one is at 1201 Princess Street and the other is at 706 North 4th Beans are organic, fair trade, and roasted in-house.
Bitty and Beau’s Coffee: Whether you prefer your beverages cold or hot, this quality joint offers a range of teas, coffees, and smoothies to quench your thirst.
