Want to plan something a little different this Valentine’s Day? The coastal town of Wilmington, NC boasts a variety of experiences you can gift your sweetheart with in any price range. From foodies to athletes to artsy-types, you are sure to wow even the most difficult to please with everything this charming town has to offer. As a resident of this city for over a decade, here are the top 5 things about the Port City that I’m sure will tug at your heart-strings during your visit…
Even off season, we Wilmingtonians love our beaches. You can’t go too far in the Wilmington area without stumbling upon a beach… From Topsail Beach just north of Wilmington, to Wrightsville Beach in the middle and Carolina/Kure beaches just south, we have you covered. Who doesn’t love a day at the beach? Off season we are lucky to still have beautiful weather most of the year. I love taking my dog to the beach at this time of the year so he can chase the waves (and an occasional seagull or two). Nothing makes me happier than to see the smile on his sweet face after a day at the beach.
Downtown Wilmington is absolutely gorgeous. From the cobblestone streets to the sky filled with a view of unbelievable architecture, you won’t want to miss stopping downtown while in Wilmington. One of my favorite things to do is to head downtown on a weekend morning, grab a coffee from one of the local coffee shops, and just see where the day takes me. I usually end up at the Farmer’s Market, buying some fresh flowers for the house, some fresh vegetables, and locally baked goodies. From there I may stop in at one of my favorite boutiques, or meet up with friends for Saturday brunch.
The Food Scene
Speaking of brunch- the food scene in Wilmington is unreal. Whether it is fresh seafood you are craving or a good home-style southern meal, you will find it here! If it’s sweets you are after, grab some homemade fudge, ice cream, or a cupcake! We even have restaurant tours to give you a taste of Wilmington where you can go in and meet the chefs of a few area restaurants and bakeries and sample their goods! Is anyone else getting hungry?
Wilmington is splitting at the seams with culture. Take a day and tour one of our many historic antebellum homes, or one of our many museums. Check out the campus of UNCW or attend a play at the historic Thalian Hall. I love Cape Fear Community College’s Humanities and Fine Arts Center. Opened at the end of 2015- they are proving to us that the Wilmington arts scene will continue to get better and better.
Wilmington residents are second to none. I love how laid back and friendly everyone is. It’s rare to pass someone here without receiving a head nod or a smile and a “hello”. Wilmington is a very active city. You can find our residents kayaking in the marshes, stand-up paddle boarding the Intracoastal Waterway, and surfing the waves of the ocean. We love to be out in the sunshine. Wilmington has a lifestyle unlike no other. Check us out- I don’t think you will want to leave either!

Update 7/21/15: We just received Zatha’s great review about her shopping experience at Jeff Gordon Chevy and her new Colorado!
As soon as I came on to the lot, Sharod immediately came to my assistance. He was receptive to what I were looking for and was able to quickly get the keys to a Colorado so I could test drive it. He was extremely knowledgable about the entire vehicle, and knew all of its capabilities extensively. After going home to think about the purchase, I decided to get the Colorado and came back the next day. On my way over Sharod informed me that it had already been sold, but he was able to arrange for me to meet with Ben to pay a deposit to secure one of the Colorado’s coming in the next shipment! Ben was also extremely helpful with the initial purchase process. Once the truck came in, Sharod was able to quickly finalize the purchase, efficiently get me through the paperwork process and hand over the keys. After the fact, Sharod capably arranged the truck bed liner and painting of the Chevy Bowties. I appreciate all the efforts of Scott, Nick, Ben and especially Sharod in making my first official vehicle purchase such an enjoyable and exciting experience!
