In the small town of Bowman, SC with less than 1,000 residents is the UFO Welcome Center. Bowman resident Jody Pendarvis has been building the UFO Welcome Center for the past 25 years. Pendarvis graduated from Bowman High School in 1970 then he went on to serve in the Air Force from 1973 to 1984, where he gaining a military education working on computers. Following his service in the military, Pendarvis attended South Carolina State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1990. Four years later he began working on the welcome center. The UFO Welcome Center consists of a 42-foot-wide flying saucer built out of wood, fiberglass, and plastic, in 2003 a smaller saucer about 20 feet in width was added on top of the original structure. There is everything that an alien might need if they are to visit, Pendarvis envisions himself as an ambassador for aliens. During the summers the top saucer is cooler than Pendarvis’ mobile home so he stays in the top saucer. There is a wooden container near the sentence that is painted blue saying “Tips” as the admission fee. There is a sign near the entrance that reads “Space People Only. Enter at Own Risk, Danger” then you walk in there is a book which asks you to write down your name and the planet that you come from. Bowman Mayor Marion Glenn would like to make the UFO Welcome Center more a true town welcome center, however, Pendarvis is indifferent about it, for now, it will remain Jody’s Welcome Center. Although they all went under some great make-overs, we’re undoubtedly most excited about the Tahoe and Suburban, not only because we’re a Chevy dealership, but the 2 bow tie-wearing full-size SUVs are the industry’s segment leaders, and their new-and-improved versions will only help that legacy continue just as strongly. The 2015 Suburban year model will also be representative of its 80th anniversary, and 12th generation of the original SUV.
Introduced in September of 2013, the 2015 Tahoe & Suburban went under a sharp and sophisticated redesign not only on the outside, but the inside too. The exterior’s new style isn’t just looks, but also helps contribute to an overall quieter ride. New inlaid doors fit into the body side openings instead of over the top of the body, significantly improving the quietness of the interior cabin and contributing to improved aerodynamics – an attribute that helps the vehicles slip through the air on the highway with less drag for greater efficiency. Lightweight aluminum hood and lift gate panels also enhance efficiency through reduced overall mass. A more-efficient, direct-injected EcoTec3 power train coupled with improved aerodynamics help offer greater estimated highway fuel economy. Other improvements provide drivers with a stronger, more planted stance, stronger braking, and new tires that are a 1/2-inch wider for better cornering.
Inside, premium materials and enhanced ergonomics demonstrate the Tahoe and Suburban’s blend of sophistication, craftsmanship and function. A new instrument panel houses an available eight-inch color touch screen radio with a secured storage bin behind the motorized screen. The compartmentalized center console is large enough to store a laptop or iPad (they thought of everything)!
The designs of the all-new Tahoe and Suburban reflect their greater functionality, technology and refinement, forging a new presence for Chevrolet SUVs that’s conveyed with unmistakable brand heritage. – Ken Parkinson, executive director of design
Other cool features include: Fold-flat second and third row seating (there will be a power option for this, too), two inches of more leg-room for your second row passengers, up to 6 USB ports and power outlets AND a 3-prong outlet to support all of your plug-in things, and available rear-seat entertainment and Blu-Ray player. But wait, there’s more! There will be a ‘conversation mirror’ in the overhead console that will give you a panoramic view of all the rear seats, which is great news for moms and dads whose vehicles often double as court rooms.
We’re anxiously waiting the arrival of the new Tahoe and Suburban which is expected to hit Jeff Gordon Chevrolet‘s lot in Wilmington, North Carolina this coming Spring. For more information on the big arrival or pre-ordering, call the internet sales hotline at (888)261-0090or fill out the contact form below to send us an email!
Minicars are becoming popular among those who are looking for something good on gas with a low monthly payment. Just about every major car company has made their contribution to the minicar class including the Honda Fit, Fiat 500, Hyundai Accent, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Prius, Nissan Versa, Ford Fiesta, Kia Rio, and of course, Chevy Spark.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tested 11 minicars and most yielded miserable results – the Fiat 500 and Honda Fit failing the worst. The only model that survived the crash tests was the 2014 Chevrolet Spark. As a result, the Spark is now the only minicar to earn the group’s 2014 Top Safety Pick award. Several other models previously honored lose that endorsement after failing the new crash test, which is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another car or object like a utility pole or a tree.
The Spark is equipped with 10 airbags and provides a great combination of safety and technology with features like the StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability System with incorporated ABS braking system that help control sliding and wheel spin.
And yes, safety is important, but what makes the Chevy Spark fun is its spunky color palette, allowing you to choose what ever color matches your personality. These 8 expressive colors include: Salsa, Lemonade, Denim, Grape Ice, Jalapeno, Silver Ice, Summit White, and Black Granite.
The Spark was named the Coolest New Car under $18,000 by Kelly Blue Book, one of Ward’s Top Ten Best Interiors of 2013, and received a 9.3 out of 10 in consumer ratings. With tech-savvy features like Chevrolet MyLink and Siri Eyes Free Technology paired with a surprising amount of passenger and cargo (31.2 cubic feet) space, and a starting price of $12,170, it’s no surprise either.
Jeff Gordon Chevrolet in Wilmington, NC currently has 6 of these peppy minicars in stock, and we’re always expecting more. Call our internet sales hotline at (910)798-2650 or toll-free at (888)261-0090 to schedule your test drive, or check out our Spark inventory online to pick your flavor today. Don’t forget that you can also create your deal online with our new Shop-Click-Drive program and we will gladly bring your new Spark to your front door – anywhere in the country!
